Bin Laden Movie to Air 2 Days Before Election

National Geographic plans to air a feature-length docu-drama about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden on Nov. 4, just two days before the presidential election, the New York Times reports. The film will be up on Netflix the next day. National Geographic says that the film, titled Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden, hews close to the facts—though some aspects have "been dramatized for creative reasons"—and that it's been vetted by a top CIA operative and a recently retired Seal.

National Geographic's president says that "other than being commercially opportunistic, we weren't considering the election," when picking the air date. The movie, produced by Hurt Locker alum Nicholas Chartier, originally debuted under the title Codename: Geronimo at Cannes, where it was snapped up by Harvey Weinstein. Another film about the raid, Zero Dark Thirty was originally set to debut before the election as well, but it was pushed back after a political outcry over the access the administration gave director Kathryn Bigelow, Hurt Locker's director.
