Stewart on US Libya Response: Do You Guys Talk at All?

The Obama administration's behavior in the aftermath of the Libya consulate attack was so ridiculous, it pushed Jon Stewart to develop a new Daily Show segment last night: "Do You Guys Ever Talk to Each Other or…" Initially, the attack was blamed on a controversial anti-Islam video; not until eight days later was it called a terrorist attack. But that wasn't so weird, Stewart said; there was some confusion at first over what happened, but "by day eight, they were very clear that this was a terrorist attack." Except, three hours after his spokesperson called it a terrorist attack, the president himself didn't want to call it a terrorist attack.

Then, even after Hillary Clinton referred to it as a terrorist attack, Obama was once again reluctant to do so … this time while on The View, or as Stewart called it, "a safer space." So, if it wasn't a "mob action" but the president won't call it a terrorist attack, what exactly was it, Stewart wondered. "Libyan St. Patrick's Day? A quinceañera that got out of hand?" Making matters worse, CNN sources said that law enforcement officials knew it was a terror attack within 24 hours. "Well, two things apparently have become clear," concluded Stewart. "The attack on our embassy was planned and coordinated. The response to it … not so much." (More Jon Stewart stories.)
