Reid Cancels Senate Votes for Brown-Warren Debate

Sen. Scott Brown is scheduled to debate Elizabeth Warren this evening in their tight Massachusetts race, but a little Senate drama nearly got in the way. Earlier in the day, Brown told a reporter that he might have to miss the debate if Senate voting ran late. Democrats say Republicans then purposely started slowing things down, trying to give Brown an excuse to skip it, reports the Hill. At which point, Harry Reid canceled all voting.

“It’s obvious to me what’s going on," said Reid from the Senate floor. "I’ve been to a few of these rodeos. It is obvious there is a big stall taking place. One of the senators who doesn’t want to debate tonight won’t be in [a] debate. Well, he can’t use the Senate as an excuse. There will be no more votes today.” Brown's camp didn't comment (or have time to comment in the rush to the plane), but the National Republican Senatorial Committee accused Reid of a "classless" tall tale. The Hill notes, however, that Brown is likely to face uncomfortable questions about Mitt Romney's "47%" comments. (More Scott Brown stories.)
