Wife Compares GOP Treatment of Akin to 'Rape'

The man who rocketed to infamy discussing "legitimate rape" on the campaign trail was treated badly by the GOP ... just like female American colonists who were raped by the Brits, says Akin's furious wife. The Republican Party dumped Rep. Todd Akin like a hot potato after his self-destructive rape comments while chasing the Missouri Senate job. A fuming Lulli Akin compared “party bosses dictating who is allowed to advance through the party and make all the decisions" to oppression in America in 1776. "That was when colonists rose up and said, ‘Not in my home, you don’t come and rape my daughters and my wife.' But that is where we are again," she told the National Journal last week.

Oh-oh, "back to rape," notes the Washington Post, just when members of Akin's family should have "learned to keep mum on rape metaphors." As for Akin himself, he said that comparing his situation to that of American revolutionaries was “a little more grandiose” than how he would have described it.
