Kate, William File Criminal Complaint Over Topless Pics

Prince William and Kate Middleton are not taking this topless photo scandal lying down: The royal couple this morning filed a criminal complaint in France against Closer, the magazine that published the pictures of Kate, the BBC reports. They had already filed a civil lawsuit. Experts say the criminal case should be open-and-shut in favor of the royals, based on France's strict privacy laws. If an injunction is granted, the magazine would be taken off French shelves immediately. Tens of thousands of euros in damages could be assessed, and the magazine's editor and photographer could even end up in jail.

Of course, none of this stopped Closer's sister magazine, Italy's Chi, from also publishing the pictures—and the spread is an incredible 38 pages. How do you fill up 38 pages with a bunch of grainy photographs? Well, as Sky News reports, you also include such hard-hitting articles as: "Kate's breasts, natural or fake?" The editor of the magazine, which is a part of Silvio Berlusconi's media group, defended printing the images. The pictures are "not particularly sensationalistic nor damaging to her dignity," says Alfonso Signorini, and they actually make Kate "more likeable" and "less distant from all of us."
