The next time you bite into a deep-fried Mars bar, you should know that the Mars candy company does not endorse the unhealthy lifestyle choice you are making. That's right, Mars actually wrote to the Scottish pub that says it was the first to fry the candy bar, in order to make it officially known that Mars does not authorize the fried version. Why not? Well, here's where it gets really hilarious: Because it goes against the candy bar company's "commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles," according to a Mars spokesperson.
It all started when Aberdeenshire's Carron Fish Bar, which claims to have originated the fried Mars bar recipe nearly 20 years ago, looked into getting some kind of official geographical designation from the European Union, the BBC reports. That's when Mars wrote to the bar to let it know that, should an application for such protection be filed, the company couldn't support it because of the deep-frying issue. Mars also wants a disclaimer placed on the bar's menu, so customers are fully aware that Mars intends its chocolate, caramel, and nougat confection to be eaten as-is, and not deep fried.
