Charles Manson Recordings on New Album

The owner of a Los Angeles shop has put out an album of music made by Charles Manson—with the killer's blessing, reports the Los Angeles Times. Manuel Vasquez, 26, says he has sold about 200 copies of the album, which features six "low-fi, mono" songs Manson wrote and performed on guitar in the 1980s. Manson doesn't get any of the money.

"I've gotten some hate mail from it," says Vasquez. "People say they don't understand why I'd want to associate myself with this or why I would be interested in releasing it." So why is he? "I usually tell people that the perspective they have of Manson is what he was convicted for in 1969, not for what he became in prison." Vasquez learned of the bootleg tape of the music a while back, finally got hold of it last year, and raised money to produce it via Kickstarter. (More Charles Manson stories.)
