For the seventh time since 2000, Mark David Chapman, the murderer of John Lennon, is up for parole, reports Reuters. The parole hearing is scheduled for this week, says a spokesman for New York state's Department of Corrections, and a decision on whether to release him is expected by Thursday or Friday.
Chapman shot Lennon four times in the back 32 years ago outside his New York City apartment. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life. In his last parole hearing in 2010, the parole board noted the "disregard you displayed for the norms of our society and the sanctity of human life." (More John Lennon stories.)
