Digital TVs now grace 57 million US households—more than half the country—according to the Consumer Electronics Association. For glass-half-empty types, that means much of the country still isn’t ready for 2009, when TV will be digital only, Engadget reports. But the optimistic CEA is predicting big sales in 2008.
The report could take some of the heat off the FCC, which has been under fire from Congress for not doing enough to inform the public about the switch, TVWeek notes. The CEA thinks another 32 million digital sets will ship next year, about 79% of which will be HD. Already, 28% of America has an HDTV. (More digital television stories.)
