Governor Cory Booker or Senator Cory Booker?

Cory Booker is looking for a promotion. The Newark mayor, Democratic party phenom, and random rescuer of people from fires, is contemplating the launch of a campaign for either the Senate or the governorship in New Jersey, reports Politico. Booker announced his intentions last night at a local county committee meeting. “I came [to Newark] and said I was going to do a mission,” Booker said in answer to an audience member's question. “But I’ll tell you this, I’m strongly considering the options at the end of my term.”

Booker said he was considering both a run against current Republican Gov. Chris Christie in 2013 and a campaign to become a New Jersey senator. Democrat Frank Lautenberg, 88, is giving his seat up in 2014. Politico thinks the Senate run is more likely. Booker recently earned the wrath of the White House for criticizing the Obama campaign's attacks on Bain Capital. (More Cory Booker stories.)
