Move over Oscar and Felix: There's a new odd couple in town. Neiman Marcus and Target yesterday announced that they're teaming up this holiday season, with plans to offer 50-plus limited-edition items from big name designers like Diane von Furstenberg and Marc Jacobs, reports the Wall Street Journal. The collection will be sold at both stores, and will include everything from apparel to stationery to jewelry priced from $7.99 to $499.99, with an average of $60.
It's easy to see why Target is keen to form such a partnership: It's yet another exclusive line for the cheap-chic store, and some of Neiman's expensive-chic vibe will likely rub off. And the Journal notes that Target likely wouldn't have been able to reel in the 24 designers participating without Neiman's name. For its part, Neiman can leave the production of the items up to its partner, and can hopefully woo shoppers who are typically too wary of its price tags to visit the store. But there's a risk, too: It has to hope that the "cheap" part of the Neiman-Target equation doesn't sully its reputation. The collection will launch Dec. 1 and be run for three weeks.
