Following her teary and much-panned adieu to the Today show, Ann Curry wasted no time in high-tailing it out of 30 Rockefeller Plaza, sources tell the New York Post. "The minute she was finished, she was out of that building," the source said. She apparently flew directly to California, where she's attending the weekend wedding of a family friend. She'll next be back aboard NBC in late July, when she heads to London to cover the Summer Olympics.
Meanwhile, NBC News president Steve Capus shared his take on why Curry wasn't the right fit for Today with the Hollywood Reporter. Basically, cooking segments and celebrity chats aren't her thing. "I think it was not where her real passion was. In her heart of hearts, I think she would admit that. I think her real passion is built around reporting on international stories. It's tough to convey a sincere interest in something if you don't possess it." As for replacement Savannah Guthrie, Capus raved. "Someone around here likened her to Mary Tyler Moore, which I thought was kind of funny. She’s completely endearing. She’s an ultimate team player." (More Ann Curry stories.)
