China has suspended a trio of officials linked to a forced late-term abortion case that has made waves internationally. The Ankang city government has apologized to Feng Jianmei, who tells NBC News her story: Seven people wrestled her out of her home and into the hospital, she says, where they blindfolded her and forced her to sign papers she couldn't see before injecting something into her her belly twice. Some 30 hours later, Feng, seven months pregnant at the time, delivered a dead girl.
"Today, I am here on behalf of the municipal government to see you and express our sincere apology to you," an official told Feng, according to the AP. "I hope to get your understanding." Feng had assumed that she could have a second child because of her location; China allows rural citizens to have two children if the first is a girl. But her documentation hadn't been updated when she moved, prompting officials to say she didn't have the right permit. MSNBC has the full story. (More China stories.)
