NH Paper Gives Mitt the Anti- Endorsement

Newspapers roll out endorsements every election cycle, but there’s nothing traditional about the Concord Monitor’s anti-endorsement today—the New Hampshire paper urged its readers to vote for someone, anyone, other than Mitt Romney. The paper calls Romney “a disquieting figure who sure looks like the next president and most surely must be stopped.”

The Monitor attacks Romney’s many policy flips, and his “chilling” stances on Guantanamo Bay and torture. It concludes that Romney is a “phony” candidate that New Hampshire voters, who pride themselves on “see[ing] through the baloney,” should reject. The Romney campaign dismissed the anti-backing, saying the Monitor leans left, but the New York Times expects a wave of Monitor-quoting attack ads.
