The manhunt for Luka Rocco Magnotta is over, but Canadian police say the investigation—and the fight to bring him to justice—is just beginning, reports CNN. Magnotta is set to appear in Berlin court today, but even though Canada and Germany have a mutual extradition treaty, Magnotta's extradition depends largely on Magnotta himself. "If he wanted to delay the proceedings, it could take as much as a year or more," a Toronto defense attorney says, though, "You have to have the resources to be able to sustain those types of appeals. I'm not sure Mr. Magnotta does."

Then there's the question of what charges Magnotta might face when he does return home: Canadian police are looking into unsolved murder cases to see if Magnotta might be connected to any of them. With parts of Magnotta's ex-boyfriend Jun Lin still missing and given Magnotta's demented history, which includes killing kittens and reportedly dating one of Canada's most infamous serial killers, police fear Magnotta might have been behind more terrible crimes. "This is far from being over," says a Montreal police commander. (More Luka Rocco Magnotta stories.)
