It'll be a busy week for Aung San Suu Kyi: On June 17, she's headed to Oslo to belatedly pick up the Nobel Peace Prize she was awarded in 1991. The next day, she heads to Dublin to receive Amnesty International's top honor, presented by Bono at a tribute concert; the event will also feature Vanessa Redgrave, Riverdance, and Bob Geldof, the AP reports. The Burma opposition leader was awarded the Ambassador of Conscience prize in 2009 but was unable to leave her country under its ruling junta.
"It's so rare to see grace trump military might, and when it happens we should make the most joyful noise we can," Bono said in a statement. "Aung San Suu Kyi's grace and courage have tilted a wobbly world further in the direction of democracy." Geldof calls her a "heroine of dignity, integrity, courage and steely moral vigor (who) lost her freedom and her family in order to gain a nation. Ireland is ennobled by her visit."
