Romney to Clinch Nomination Today

A year to the week after launching his campaign, Mitt Romney is poised to make history by securing his place as the first major-party Mormon presidential nominee, reports the Washington Post. Unless Ron Paul pulls off an incredible upset in his home state, Texas will push Romney over the 1,144-delegate mark when it holds its Republican primary today. "It'll be a big day tomorrow," Romney told reporters on his campaign plane last evening. "I'm looking forward to the good news."

But his plane wasn't headed for Texas. Romney begins a swing through Colorado and Nevada today which will include a controversial Las Vegas fundraiser with Donald Trump tonight, AP reports. "I do not understand the cost-benefit here," said conservative commentator George Will. "The cost of appearing with this bloviating ignoramus is obvious, it seems to me." Romney declined to comment on Trump's claims that President Obama was born in Kenya. "I don't agree with all the people who support me. And my guess is they don't all agree with everything I believe in," he said. "But I need to get 50.1% or more." (More Mitt Romney stories.)
