Nearly a month after he dropped out of the race, Rick Santorum has formally endorsed the former rival he once described as the worst Republican in the country to challenge Obama. Santorum made the endorsement in an email to supporters after a one-on-one meeting with Mitt Romney that lasted more than an hour, reports Politico. Santorum says he used the meeting to assess Romney's commitment to conservative causes, and to encourage him to add more conservative leaders to his team.
"The primary campaign certainly made it clear that Governor Romney and I have some differences," Santorum wrote. "But there are many significant areas in which we agree: the need for lower taxes, smaller government, and a reduction in out-of-control spending. We certainly agree that abortion is wrong, and that marriage should be between one man and one woman." Santorum wrote that while he has doubts about Romney's ability to campaign effectively against ObamaCare, he is certain that Romney will work to repeal it.
