Colored fur, tattoos, trendy haircuts: The punk look isn't just for humans anymore. Temporary tattoos are increasingly popular in the canine world, says an association of "creative groomers." "People love it—it's hilarious," says one groomer. Adds another: "People are amazed—they do a double take." The tats, which cost between $10 and $20, range from sports symbols to anchors to John Deere logos, USA Today reports.
Of course, not everyone is thrilled about the trend. PETA argues that it's undignified for the pooches: "Our dogs and cats love us regardless of how we look," says a rep. "We should extend the same kindness to them." But creative groomers say such concerns stem from in part from safety worries. "As professional groomers, our responsibility is to encourage and promote a healthy skin and coat," notes one. And decorated pets "get so much attention and love—they eat it up, from what I've seen," says a groomer who provides mohawks and hair dye. Click through for a slide show. (More pets stories.)
