Robin Gibb's Own Music Woke Him From Coma

As Robin Gibb lay in a coma, his family played Bee Gees music in his hospital room—and noticed Gibb trying to mouth the lyrics of his old songs, his family tells ITV. But it was ultimately his most recent composition, a classical piece titled "The Titanic Requiem," that was playing when Gibb finally woke up, Reuters reports. (It was initially a Roy Orbison song credited with waking Gibb.) "Two days before that, they said they'd thrown the kitchen sink at him, that it was time to make plans because he was in God's hands and such but he beats the odds again," son Robin-John says.

Indeed, doctors say they are "confounded" by Gibb's recovery, CNN reports. Gibb is "fully conscious, lucid, and able to speak to his loved ones," says his physician, and is breathing on his own. "He is of course, exhausted, extremely weak, and malnourished." Wife Dwina says he's "fantastic." "He is laughing, he is joking, he is really happy," she says. "He just wants to get out. He has been very naughty because he pulled his feeding tube out so the nurses will have to put it back in again, but he wants ice cream." (More Robin Gibb stories.)
