With 30 seconds left in the game, Alexei Ponikarovsky was set to score on an empty net and put the game away for the Maple Leafs. But he held the puck a second too long, allowing Hurricane Cory Stillman to snatch it. Stillman set up the tying goal, which sent the game into overtime and ended with the Canes' 3-2 win.

Elsewhere in the league:

  • Brian Rolston scored the game-winning goal with 1:08 remaining to give Minnesota the come-from-behind win over Nashville.
  • Roberto Luongo returned from injury to lead the Canucks to a shutout win over the Devils.
