President Obama holds significant leads over GOP frontrunner Mitt Romney in all categories—except for the federal budget, and his handling of the economy, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. According to the poll, 51% of registered voters would pick Obama over 44% for Romney. The president also has double-digit leads over Romney concerning which candidate voters think would do a better job in such areas as health care, international affairs, protecting the middle class, and women's issues—as well as a whopping 38-point lead in likability and a 26-point margin as "more inspiring."
But with 46% of respondents opposed to Obama's handling of the economy and 39% unhappy with his view on the size of government, the poll points to a major weakness in the president's quest for re-election. A hefty percentage of voters believe that Romney would better deal with the federal budget. A narrow margin of those surveyed are convinced Romney would handle the economy better than the president.
