The Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation is by all accounts still reeling from the backlash over its bid to cut Planned Parenthood funding. And while the breast cancer charity deserved all the scorn it got, writes Amy Tennery at the JaneDough blog, it might just be time for a little forgiveness. The main reason? "You've actually done some pretty spectacular things for women's health."
Komen's ubiquitous pink ribbon has raised awareness in such a way that the term "'brilliant marketing' doesn't even begin to cover it," and founder Nancy Brinker has used her connections over the years to engineer an astonishing turnaround in public funding. "I can’t look at the last 30 years of progress in breast cancer awareness, research and support and not credit you with a huge bulk of that," writes Tennery.
