Soon, your days of sleeping on airport benches during long layovers may be over. A growing number of airports around the country are installing “relaxation rooms,” small suites that fliers can rent by the hour that come complete with HD TVs, wireless internet, and, of course, a daybed. (But no bathroom.) The suites are already in place in Atlanta and Philadelphia, and will be installed in Minneapolis-St. Paul and Dallas-Fort Worth by the end of the year, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The rooms are the work of Atlanta-based Minute Suites LLC, and can be had for $30 an hour, or $120 a night. There are "no instructions required," the company's CEO says. Travelers "walk in. They plop themselves down." Airport suites are fairly common in Europe, where hotels are often more expensive, but are new to the US. “This has not been an easy concept to sell to America,” says one business travel writer. “Americans are simply not used to it.” (More airport stories.)
