No wonder Apple can afford to spend $45 billion on a buyback and dividend program: The company sold a whopping 3 million iPads on the tablet's opening weekend, the New York Times reports. That beats estimated sales of the iPad 2's first weekend by three times, and easily trumps sales of the first iPad, which took 28 days to top a million units.
Consumers are also getting more for their money with the new iPad, the Los Angeles Times reports. A tear-down analysis of the iPad 3's innards shows that the 32-gigabyte version with 4G wireless cost $375 to produce, which is 50% of the tablet's price tag—whereas the iPad 2's insides cost only $335 to build. However, buyers are still finding something to complain about, saying the iPad 3 heats up in the lower left-hand corner when held upright in portrait mode, reports Huffington Post.
