Obama's $45M Haul in February Trounces January

President Obama's fundraising numbers got a little more impressive last month: He followed up a $29.1 million January with a $45 million February haul. That's almost twice the average amount he scored in the last three months of 2011, and brings this election cycle's total to $300 million, the AP reports. Some 350,000 people donated last month, the campaign says; across the election cycle, the average donation has been $59, with 98% of donations clocking in at $250 or less.

But here's another putting-things-in-perspective factoid: Last month's total is well below the $56 million Obama raised in February 2008—a fact that Republicans haven't missed. "It’s clear President Obama is having a hard time convincing voters he deserves another term," said an RNC rep, according to Politico. "Whether it’s showing in fundraising or in the polls, Americans are enthusiastic about replacing him in November." Part of the problem: Obama is short on big-money donations.
