The University of Southern Mississippi has apologized after members of its band recited an offensive chant at a Kansas State player during the NCAA tournament. As KSU's Angel Rodriguez approached the free-throw line, some in the band chanted, "Where's your green card?" Video of the incident was posted online, prompting angry comments. Southern Miss President Martha Saunders said the school "deeply regret(s) the remarks made by a few students."

"The words of these individuals do not represent the sentiments of our pep band, athletic department or university," she said, according to the Clarion-Ledger. "We apologize to Mr. Rodriguez and will take quick and appropriate disciplinary action." The school's interim athletic director also apologized to KSU and will meet with the band to discuss the incident, he said. (More University of Southern Mississippi stories.)
