Afghan officials have suggested more than one shooter was involved in Sunday's massacre of 16 villagers, but surveillance video shows just one US soldier. The still-unnamed soldier is shown returning to his base, setting his weapon on the ground, removing a traditional Afghan shawl, and raising his arms in surrender, the AP reports. US authorities showed the video to Afghan authorities to prove the shooter acted alone, according to one Afghan official who viewed it.
An Afghan intelligence official was killed in a bomb blast today as a delegation investigating the incident met in Kandahar; none of the delegation members were hurt. Militants also fired on a delegation at a prayer service for the victims yesterday, killing one Afghan soldier. Afghan lawmakers want the shooter to be put on trial publicly in Afghanistan, and a US military spokesperson in the country says it is possible to hold a court-martial in Afghanistan but "no final decision has been made" on the location yet.
