Mitt Romney recently panned Newt Gingrich's promise of $2.50-per-gallon gasoline if he's elected president, and Gingrich fired back today on Fox & Friends, claiming Romney just doesn't understand the importance of lowering the price. "If you’re Mitt Romney and you’re rich enough, maybe you don’t get it—$2.50-a-gallon gasoline is more than responsible. It was $1.13 when I was speaker, it was $1.89 when Barack Obama was sworn in as president."

"I mean, if Romney wants to run as candidate of high-price gasoline, that’s fine with me, we’ll lump him in with Barack Obama, which is the same as RomneyCare and ObamaCare, so maybe it’s also Romney high-price gasoline and Obama high-price gasoline," Gingrich continued. "I stand for everyday working Americans. ... Let's debate expensive gasoline versus inexpensive gasoline." (More Newt Gingrich 2012 stories.)
