A House committee says the Bush administration has attempted to mislead the public about global warming by editing written testimony, controlling media access to scientists, and trying to minimize the links between climate change and hurricanes, the Christian Science Monitor reports. The study, authored mainly by Democrats, accuses the White House of "a systematic effort to manipulate climate change science."

Among other conclusions of the 16-month investigation: the president's environment adviser had inapproprate influence over EPA documents and a federal scientist was prohibited from testifying that humans influence climate change. While watchdog groups cheered the findings by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the White House and a top Republican congressman dismissed them as partisan politics.
