Virginia is for gun lovers.   (?Elliott P)

Today's big gun story comes not from Arizona, but Virginia: The Virginia Senate aims today to shoot down a 19-year-old cap limiting residents to buying just one gun a month. Earlier this week, the Senate also passed a bill prohibiting towns from requiring fingerprints from people seeking permits to carry concealed weapons. The gun bills are two of a flood of changes expected to come down the Virginia pike now that the GOP controls the state Senate, House, and governor's mansion for only the second time since the Civil War.

Today's pistol-packing bill infuriates the gun-control activist mom of a student injured in the 2007 shooting at Virginia Tech that killed 32. "Obviously, it says something about the Republicans that they pander to special interest groups instead of law enforcement and the citizens of Virginia,” Lori Haas told the Washington Post. More than 40 gun bills will come before the General Assembly this session, most of them aimed at expanding gun rights. (More National Rifle Association stories.)
