Looks like somebody is taking his Palmetto State shellacking seriously: Mitt Romney, in a rare appearance on Fox News Sunday, announced today that he'll release his much-discussed tax returns on Tuesday. "Given all the attention that's been focused on tax returns, given the distraction I think they became in these last couple of weeks, I'm going to release my tax returns for 2010, which is the last returns that were completed," Romney said, according to Politico. "I'll do them on Tuesday of this week. I'm also at the same time going to release an estimate for 2011 tax returns. So you'll have two years, people can take a good look at it."
"We just made a mistake in holding off as long as we did. It was a distraction, we want to get back to the real issues of the campaign," Romney continued. The candidate insisted his returns are standard fare, and called a controversial Cayman Islands account "apparently an investment that was made in an entity that invested in the United States. The taxes paid in that were full US taxes. We pay full fair taxes, and you'll see it 's a pretty substantial amount." (More Mitt Romney 2012 stories.)
