There's still more than a week to go until the South Carolina primary but Newt Gingrich's campaign may have already reached the bottom of the barrel. His campaign's new "French Connection" ad, in an effort to portray Mitt Romney as just another Massachusetts liberal, points out that Romney speaks French—just like John Kerry, Politico reports.
The ad shows a clip of Kerry speaking French and a clip of Romney—who spent years in France as a Mormon missionary—saying "Bonjour, je m'appelle Mitt Romney" in a promotional video for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, which he ran. The Gingrich spot makes no mention of fellow French-speakers John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, or both Roosevelts. (More Newt Gingrich stories.)
