A court has ordered NASA to release info relating to a UFO sighting 42 years ago in Kecksburg, Pa. Several witnesses say they saw the crash of a large object, which soldiers then carted off. The Chicago Tribune probes the case, in which a freelance journalist sued NASA under the Freedom of Information Act after the agency repeatedly stalled in releasing documents related to the incident.
The journalist, Leslie Kean, is working for the SciFi Channel, which has aired a show about the incident. NASA has already turned over nearly 700 pages of documents to Kean and will now be required to search its records extensively for more information. "I asked my attorney if she found the 'Kecksburg UFO Explained' file. She said, 'Not yet.' But I'm still hopeful," says Kean. (More UFO sightings stories.)
