The team prosecuting Hosni Mubarak says he and all the other defendants in his case must die. Mustafa Khater, one of the prosecutors, concluded the team's three-day opening statement in Mubarak's trial today with a call for the death penalty, according to Reuters and the AP. "The prosecution demands the maximum penalty against Mubarak and the rest of the accused which is death by hanging," he said.
Mubarak is on trial along with sons Gamal and Alaa, his security chief, the former Interior minister, and six top police commanders—and Khater wants them all to hang. "Retribution is the solution," he said. "Any fair judge must issue a death sentence for these defendants." (More Hosni Mubarak stories.)
