Two farmers in northern India just wanted to obtain property tax records from a local tax office, but officials allegedly demanded bribes for the info. The miffed farmers came back with three bags, filled not with bribe cash, but with around 40 live snakes—including at least four deadly cobras—which they proceeded to let loose inside the busy office, reports AP.
"Snakes started climbing up the tables and chairs," says a state official. "There was total chaos. Hundreds of people gathered outside the room, some of them with sticks in their hands, shouting that the snakes should be killed." No one was bitten or injured during the frenzy and all the snakes have been captured. Police are searching for the farmers, one of whom is a known snake charmer. (More strange stuff stories.)
