Do you love whisky and also have an utterly ridiculous amount of money to spend on it? Then Suntory Yamazaki has just the thing for you. The distillery will next month release a batch that’s been aging since 1961 for an eye-popping 1 million yen ($12,970) a bottle, CNN reports. And despite the price tag, there’s expected to be plenty of demand.
The batch, Yamazaki 50 Years Old, has been aging in casks of Japan’s famously fragrant mizunara oak, and purportedly boasts "a nose of overripe fruit, a wonderful aromatic aloeswood unfurling on the palate, and a long, faintly smoky finish," writes Nicholas Coldicott. Suntory released some of the batch twice before, and both times it sold out in less than 48 hours. The smart money is on that happening again, because only 150 bottles will be available.
