Cory Smoot, lead guitarist for gruesome heavy metal veterans GWAR, was found dead on the band's tour bus yesterday after a concert in Minneapolis, AP reports. GWAR lead singer Dave Brockie it's not yet known how Smoot, just 34, died, and "at this point we are just dealing with the loss of our dear friend and brother." Smoot, whose stage name was "Flattus Maximus," joined the band known for its grotesque sci-fi/fantasy-inspired costumes in 2002 and produced its last two albums. (More Cory Smoot dead stories.)
