Where in the world is Saif al-Islam Gadhafi? Quite possibly somewhere in the Sahara Desert, where he could manage to stay hidden for months, the AP reports. Gadhafi, who was last rumored to be near the Mali border on Oct. 28, could be fleeing to a safe country, negotiating a surrender, or even planning a counterrevolution—but no one seems to know exactly what he’s doing or where he is. Rumor has it he’s been traveling with the nomadic Tuaregs, who know how to survive in the desert and are loyal to the Gadhafi family.
The heavily armed Tuaregs, angry over the fate of Moammar Gadhafi, could mount an insurgency, some fear. Of course, there’s also the possibility Gadhafi is purposely spreading misinformation about his plans and whereabouts. Libya's ambassador to South Africa notes that Gadhafi is likely carrying gold, diamonds, and cash in order to make his escape easier. The ICC’s chief prosecutor is calling on other countries to track down the fugitive, the BBC adds.
