'Miracle Dog' Survives Gas Chamber

Eighteen dogs went into the gas chamber at an Alabama shelter, but when an employee opened the door to collect the bodies, out walked Daniel the beagle, wagging his tail. Now Daniel is being hailed as a "miracle dog" and getting a second chance at a New Jersey shelter called Eleventh Hour Rescue that heard about his story, reports NBC New York.

“It’s a common misconception that they only gas bad or mean dogs,” says a rep at the shelter, where Daniel is up for adoption. "They gas a dog like Daniel, who has a lot of life and is a good dog.” So how did he survive? "It's possible he was able to raise his head above the carbon monoxide, which is heavier than air," explains Daily Intel.
