Tiger Woods was back on the green yesterday playing his first tournament in seven weeks, but he didn’t make headlines because of his performance. No, he finds himself a newsmaker because of the hot dog that got thrown at him. Woods was standing over a putt at CordeValle in the Frys.com Open when he heard a scuffle, looked up, and saw a hot dog coming toward him. “The bun was kind of disintegrating,” he says.
The 31-year-old man apparently yelled Woods’ name, ran out on the California green, and tossed the hot dog, although he claims he simply threw it in the air, not at Woods. “Next thing I know, he laid on the ground, and looked like he wanted to be arrested because he ... put his hands behind his back and turned his head,” Woods said. The unnamed man was arrested, but police said he would not be taken to jail since it was only a misdemeanor. As for Woods’ actual golf game, the AP reports that he looked much better than he did back in August, the last time he played on the PGA tour; even so he ended up tying for 30th place.
