The Occupy Wall Street movement staged its biggest demonstration yet yesterday, with thousands marching from lower Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park to Foley Square near City Hall. Their ranks were bolstered by students, workers, and members of more than 30 unions, DNAinfo reports. But the night also saw things get ugly once again between police and protesters; when protesters tried to push past a police barricade, officers charged in, swinging batons and firing mace.
A local Fox 5 reporter and photographer were in the thick of things; the photographer was hit in the eyes with pepper spray, and the reporter took a baton hit to the abdomen. Both men were fine, however, and able to continue covering the protests. Police arrested 28 people, including one accused of assaulting an officer, according to CNN—a far cry from the more than 700 arrested on Saturday.
