Two days of closing arguments have begun in the Amanda Knox appeal, and prosecutors urged jurors not to forget victim Meredith Kercher. One juxtaposed grisly photos from the murder scene with images of Knox and boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito huddling together the following day, reports AP. "The victim has sunk into an absolute and shameful oblivion, made more intolerable by the media's morbid exaltation of the two people sitting on the defendant's bench," said the prosecutor. They may be clean cut, he added, but "there's a dark side in all of us."

A verdict could come by the end of the month, and Knox's mother continues to be confident that her daughter will go free. "We are feeling this could be the end of the nightmare," she tells ABC. Knox herself appeared tense as she walked into court today, writes ABC correspondent Phoebe Natanson. "It looks like Amanda isn't sleeping well,' her mother said. (More Amanda Knox stories.)
