Sarah Palin is leaving the door open for a presidential run—but most Republican voters want that door slammed shut, according to the latest McClatchy-Marist poll. More than 70% of Republican and Republican-leaning voters don't want Palin to run for the presidency, the poll found. If Palin and Rudy Giuliani were to enter the race tomorrow, Giuliani would be in second place, with 14% backing, to front-runner Rick Perry's 20%, while Palin and Romney would be tied at 13%.
President Obama's poll numbers are still sliding, the poll found, with 53% saying they won't support the president, up from 40% just last month. Nevertheless, Obama would still beat or tie almost any Republican challenger, the poll found—except for Giuliani, who would thrash Obama 49% to 42%. Some 58% of Republicans, however, don't want the former New York mayor to enter the race.
