Gadhafi Son Flees to Niger

With several tank and military vehicle convoys fleeing Libya and rolling into Niger, rumors are swirling about which high-level government officials they may be moving. At least one was transporting a Gadhafi—not Moammar, but his soccer-playing, movie-investing third son, Saadi, reports the BBC. Niger government officials said they agreed to allow Saadi and his convoy to enter on humanitarian grounds.

Niger has not decided whether to grant his father asylum, however, and has recognized the rebel Transitional National Council as the legitimate government of Libya. The TNC announced yesterday that it intends to establish an interim government within 10 days, and Libya is already resuming oil production. The head of the TNC entered Tripoli for the first time since rebels took over on Saturday. (More Libya stories.)
