President Obams’s uncle, Oyango Obama, is out of jail, but authorities are being awfully coy about the details. Officials won’t say if the 67-year-old posted bond, or if they’re keeping tabs on him, or even if they’re still trying to deport him, the Boston Globe reports. We know he’s been released only because the Immigration and Customs Enforcement website lists him as “not in custody,” but the agency won’t comment beyond that.
Obama’s neighbors say they don’t know where he is, and a co-worker at the Conti Liquors where he works was unaware he had been released. Obama was arrested in Framingham, Massachusetts, two weeks ago on charges that included drunk driving, and was kept in custody once authorities realized he had violated a 1992 order to return to Kenya. He has lived in Massachusetts since coming to Cambridge in 1963 to attend a prep school there. (More Onyango Obama stories.)
