No Muslims in My Cabinet, Mitt Says

Mitt Romney says he won't put a Muslim in his cabinet if he wins in 2008, because US demographics just don't justify it. "But of course, I would imagine that Muslims could serve at lower levels of my administration," he added, according to an op-ed piece by a Pakistani-American businessman who says he put the question to Mitt at a fundraiser a couple of weeks ago.

Romney now says he's be proud to have African Americans "among my cabinet members," but adds, "Checking off boxes of various ethnic groups is really a very inappropriate way to think about how we staff positions." Mitt’s PR man tells Politico that it’s too soon to talk cabinet staffing, but says that Romney won't need a cabinet Muslim “to effectively fight radical jihad.” (More Mitt Romney stories.)
