Michele Bachmann is the latest candidate to make the risky political move of “attributing political motive to natural disasters,” as Alexander Burns writes for Politico. The St. Petersburg Times reports that this weekend at a campaign event in Florida, while praising the Tea Party for its focus on government spending cuts, Bachmann said, “I don't know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We've had an earthquake; we've had a hurricane. He said, 'Are you going to start listening to me here?' Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we've got to rein in the spending.”
Mediaite notes, per a report from Nashville NBC Affiliate WSMV, that Bachmann later said the comment was a joke. But she’s not the only one making questionable comments about the recent natural disasters: Click to find out why Glenn Beck thinks they’re “blessings.” (More Michele Bachmann stories.)
