BBC Convoy Attacked by Pro-Gadhafi Forces

Despite the advances made by Libyan rebels yesterday, Tripoli continues to see heavy fighting—and a BBC convoy recently found itself in the middle of the violence. Reporter Rupert Wingfield-Hayes was accompanying rebels into the city center when, he says, “we came under ambush … pro-Gadhafi forces drove out of a side street with a 20-millimeter anti-aircraft cannon on the back of the their pick-up truck, and they opened up on the rebel convoy really at point blank range, tearing into the convoy.”

Since his group was at the back of the convoy, it was able to turn around, Wingfield-Hayes says, adding that he’s not sure how many were injured or killed in the attack. (More reporters stories.)
