Federal Reserve chief Ben Bernanke will be no better than Benedict Arnold if he embarks on a third round of tinkering with the money supply between now and the election, Rick Perry told a Republican rally in Iowa yesterday. "If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I don’t know what y’all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas," Perry said. "Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treacherous—or treasonous in my opinion," added the candidate.
Bernanke, appointed by George W. Bush in 2006, has already tried two rounds of buying Treasury bonds to inject more money into the economy, the Wall Street Journal notes. At the Iowa rally, Perry also took aim at President Obama for never having served in the military. "The president had the opportunity to serve his country. I’m sure at some time he made the decision that isn’t what he wanted to do," said Perry, who flew C-130s in the Air Force. (More quantitative easing stories.)
